Our 3 day mount Nyiragongo hike starts in Rwanda to Congo through Goma border offering tourists a once in a lifetime opportunity to hike to one of the world’s most active volcanoes to watch boiling lava. Mount Nyiragongo is an active volcano standing at 11385ft in the Virunga mountains in Virunga national park of the DRC.

Day 1: Arrival-Transfer to DR Congo
You will be picked from the airport on arrival or from your hotel in Kigali city by our representative who will be your guide and driver for this entire trip and be briefed about the trip. Be on your way to the city to have an adventure into the different attractions of the city like the genocide memorial grounds, museums and the local markets. Get onto the road driving through the beautiful countryside of Rwanda, have a lunch break at Gisenyi and cross through Goma border. You will proceed to clear your documents and then be transferred to your Hotel/lodge to prepare for the hiking the following day. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Mount Nyiragongo Hike
After your breakfast this morning, you will transfer to Kibati which is the starting point for briefing together with other hikers. You will soon begin your hike to this mountain enjoying the beauty of the lush bushes and the different mammals in this area. The vegetation cover keeps reducing as you hike since most of the upper part was affected by the hot lave during eruption of this mountain. The hiking takes 4-6 hours and this amazing journey rewards you with amazing views of the surrounding area as you get to the higher points of this mountain. The hiking team moves together and clients with heavy luggage are encouraged to hire a porter to carry it for them. After many hours of hiking, you will arrive at the summit and proceed to watch the unstoppable fire flames of the burning lava lake. The views are even better in the night and you won’t miss on this amazing experience of the fire flames at the summit. Accommodation and meals are at a safe distance for clients since you will spend your night on this mountain. Dinner and overnight at the summit.
Day 3: Departure
Your breakfast will be ready early and by 6:30am, you will start your journey descending to the bottom of Mount Nyiragongo. Normally takes about 4 hours and is normally a bit easier than hiking. You will join your guide and transfer to the border at Goma, have lunch and eventually cross to Rwanda proceeding to the airport for your final flight.
