Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Akagera National Park
The trip starts with our experienced guide picking you at the airport on arrival, you will then head to the city for a tour to the historical sites of Rwanda like the genocide memorial grounds. You will have lunch in the city and then head out for the Akagera National Park which was named after River Kagera that flows on the Eastern border. You will arrive in the evening hours and if time allows, there will be an evening game drive to catchup with the wild on your first day of the trip.
Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise
After your breakfast this morning at the lodge, you will head to the park for a morning game drive to catchup with the early risers trying to catch a meal. Some of the wildlife here include the zebras, lions, buffaloes, elands, impalas, leopards and hyenas among others. Our experienced guide will ensure to take you to the best game viewing spots to fulfill all your expectations. Break off for lunch at the lodge after this morning game drive and get ready for a boat ride at Lake Ihema. Launch a boat cruise for another game viewing experience watching the hippos, crocodiles and a number of water birds like the Kingfisher and the fish eagles among others. Return to the lodge after this wonderful experience and settle for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Breakfast will be served very early this morning at the lodge, checkout and drive off with your guide through the Akagera National Park. This enroute drive gives you a chance to watch some wildlife on your way out as you also enjoy scenic views of the landscape as you drive through the countryside. You will have lunch and proceed to Nyungwe National Park arriving in the evening hours. Check in at the lodge, spend the evening, relax and later have your dinner and spend the night at the lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking
The day begins with a breakfast meal at the lodge and then head to the briefing point to meet other tourists. You will be guided on the rules for chimpanzee tracking and then be led into the forest to search for the habituated chimps. Chimpanzees share 98%DNA as humans and their special character is seen through their behavior in their groups. Upon meet the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour encounter with them as you learn about their life in the natural habitat. The exercise is a bit tiring but so rewarding as you interact with these apes. Return to the lodge for lunch, spend the evening at leisure, have dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Canopy walk and transfer to Kigali
Breakfast will be served at the lodge and then drive to the starting point of the canopy for a short briefing. The canopy at Nyungwe forest is one of a kind suspended 60 meters high ion the treetops stretching 200 meters long. You will enjoy an aerial view of the entire forest as you watch the primates and other wildlife below the canopy. Return to the lodge for lunch and checkout driving to Kigali for your final flight.
