This captivating short Uganda gorilla tour allows you interact with one habituated gorilla group in Bwindi, home to at least 459 mountain gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park is situated in the Southwestern Uganda and takes 8-9 hours’ drive to get there. But as per this trip, you will be starting your road trip from Kigali capital which is 4-5 hours’ drive.

Bwindi was officially declared as Uganda National Park in 1991 and entirely, it occupies up to 331sq.km. The park has 4 regions (including Rushaga, Nkuringo, Buhoma and Ruhija) for tourists to begin their trek to see gorillas. Each of these gorilla trekking sectors feature already habituated gorilla groups including Mishaya, Kutu, Posho, Bweza, Nshongi, Busingye, Bikingi, Kahungye, Mucunguzi, Mubare, Habinyanja, Kyaguriro, Bitukura, Rushegura, Christmas, Katwe, and more.

Other than gorillas, Bwindi also supports other diverse animal species including bush pigs, black-fronted duikers, side-striped jackals, clawless otters, elephants, giant forest hogs, buffaloes, and rodents, etc. Bird species in Bwindi total up to about 350 and include the red-faced woodland warblers, regal sunbird, bush shrikes, black-billed turacos, mountain masked apalis, African harrier hawks, and others.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali-Bwindi via Cyanika/Katuna border, trek gorillas and return

Meet your driver guide at the hotel early morning and get briefed shortly about this trp. Begin your journey to Bwindi early enough and you may have your breakfast in the vehicle. Drive through Cyanika or Katuna border crossing to Bwindi National Park where you will find the park official who will take you through the guidelines for gorilla trekking then also allocate the park guides and gorilla families.

Your park ranger guide will take lead through the forest in search of Bwindi mountain gorillas. This adventure will run for 2-6 hours depending on location of these apes and your speed of trekking. On locating them, expect to enjoy an hour of observing these apes as they play, their feeding habits, grooming and also take photos.

After the special moment with a family of massive silverback and its members, begin walking back to the briefing centre. Get your gorilla trekking certificate and you will depart Bwindi for Kigali, arriving in the evening.
