Details
Day 1: Kigali to DRC
You will be picked on arrival at the airport in Kigali and get on your way to the DRC through Goma border. Our representative will hand you over to the Virunga National Park team for all the activities in the DRC. You will be transferred to the lodge near the park where you will spend your evening, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Hike mount Nyiragongo
After a heavy breakfast meal at your lodge this morning, you will immediately head to Kibatsi the starting point in the Virunga National Park. The hike will begin very early in the morning with a team of guides and porters hired to help carry your luggage in case it is too heavy for you to carry on a hike. You will enjoy the beautiful lower parts of the mountain covered with very fresh and beautiful vegetation with some inhabitants. The vegetation cover however reduces as you get to higher points of the mountain because it was eaten up by the fire from the eruptions that occurred before and also the heat from the active volcanoes are unfriendly to the vegetation. The hike takes you 5-7 hours and that means you will arrive at the summit in the evening hours. You will then proceed to the viewing point to watch the deadly fire flames from the active volcano at a distance. you may also want to watch the fire at night for a better view in the dark hours of the night to have a proper view. You will then return to the camping area to rest, have your dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo
Breakfast will be served at the camping site and then start the journey descending this mountain. This will definitely take less time than hiking and after reaching the bottom, you will be transferred by the team at Virunga National Park to your lodge for relaxation. Lunch, Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking
After breakfast at the lodge, you will head to the Virunga park offices for a briefing session from a team of guides at the park. You will thereafter be led into the jungle to find a habituated Gorilla family as allocated to you. You will then meet the gorilla family, you will be allowed to meet them for an hour and as you learn about their different behavior. You will return to the starting point after this amazing adventure and head to the lodge to have some relax. Dinner and overnight will bet at hat lodge.
Day 5: Return to Kigali
Breakfast will be served early in the morning and then a team from Virunga Park will drive you to meet your guide at the border. Proceed to Kigali with a stopover for lunch and on other beautiful attractions on the way. Arrive at Kigali later and head to the airport for your flight.
